Athletes aiming to reach their PBs can find a range of barriers in their way: performance anxiety, pain, perfectionism, stress...
These barriers all do the same thing: you lose focus.
You lose focus of what's important when anxiety is telling you it's the most important thing.
You lose focus of why you do this when pain and perfectionism steal that joy.
You know you're capable of more, but it doesn't seem easy. It seems messy, complicated, out of balance. Off-Kilter.
My name is Kirsty (they/she).
I’m from Scotland and I was a primary teacher for 11 years. Until I became burnt out and chronic kidney pain stopped me in my tracks.
I spent months in and out of A&E. I had ultrasounds and MRIs; I went part-time at work to deal with the pain; I rented a wheelchair just so I could enjoy a holiday. And doctors kept telling me the same things: it's all in your head and there's nothing wrong with you.
Desperate to be free from pain, I was willing to try anything; so when my mum sent me a Guardian article about hypnotherapy, I booked a session. Twelve sessions later, I was pain free - and haven't had kidney pain since then.
The cause of the pain wasn't tissue damage. It was stress and burn-out from my career in teaching; so I started to look at other careers.
Knowing how powerful hypnotherapy had been for me, I decided to retrain as a hypnotherapist - so I could not only change careers, but also help others in the process.
Everything I do with my clients is science-based and evidence-backed, and are techniques I used for myself and continue to use.
I weave these four elements into every session:
I blend proven techniques, like Hypno-CBT and somatics, with a deep understanding of an athlete’s mindset. I am qualified and certified with the following - and continue to dedicate time and effort to learning more!
